Men's Institute for Leadership and Education Scholarship

PURPOSE:
. The MILE scholarship is designed to increase the leadership capacity, workforce skills, college enrollment, and college completion rate of men.

Program elements include:

  • Leadership Training: Three day training to develop critical life skills such as budgeting and communication.
  • Mentor Program: Community leaders serve as MILE Mentors and provide guidance and support to scholars.
  • Scholarship Award: At completion of Leadership Training, students receive a $1,250 award. An additional $1,250 is awarded upon completion of the quarterly mentor workshops.

To qualify for MILE, students must apply in the Spring. Student applications will be selected based upon academic achievement in context of adversity, financial need, and leadership potential. Other eligibility requirements may apply.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current Hartnell student, currently enrolled in at least 9 units who plans on being enrolled at Hartnell for the 2024-2025 Academic Year
  • Maintain enrollment in at least 9 units each semester (DSPS students may qualify for reduced course load)
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher
*Former MILE recipients are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must be able to participate in:

-Leadership Workshops being held (must attend all):

  • August 12, 2024: 9:00am-3:00pm
  • August 13, 2024: 9:00am-3:00pm
  • August 14, 2024: 9:00am-3:00pm

-Quarterly Mentor Meetings (must attend all):

Dates to be announced at a later date. Typically, we meet in September/October, February and April on a Saturday from 10-2pm.
