Howard L. Morse (Memorial Scholarship)

Howard L. Morse was born in the small town of Odell, Illinois in 1939. An only child, he worked on the family farm until leaving to attend college at Stanford University. At Stanford, Howard followed his passion for physics and engineering, earning bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees in electrical and aeronautical engineering while also serving in the Air Force ROTC program.

After receiving his doctorate degree, Howard spent his entire career working for Acurex Corporation, and engineering firm which specialized in aerospace and alternative alternative energy technologies. A lover of people and of teaching, he constantly educated those around him about basic scientific principles, and he enjoyed volunteering to teach in local schools.

After retiring in 2000, Howard found an outlet for his passion for teaching at Hartnell College. He taught courses designed for people with little scientific background that helped explain the science and technologies that affected their everyday lives. He loved to make the world of science “come alive” for his students. Howard was also a dedicated member of the Hartnell College Foundation board.

Howard passed away from cancer in July, 2005. He loved his wife and three children, friends, golf, baseball, and the living of life.
